Softball Falls To Stony Brook In Second Tournament Game<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

STONY BROOK, N.Y. \u2013<\/strong> After defeating Binghamton in their opening game of the America East Tournament, the University at Albany softball team advanced to the winner\u2019s bracket to face top seed and host Stony Brook.\u00a0 The game, originally scheduled for this morning at 11:00 a.m., was pushed to 2:30 p.m. due to inclement weather.\u00a0 Stony Brook (34-16) defeated UAlbany (30-11) by a score of 9-0 in six innings.<\/span><\/p>\n

Brittany MacFawn<\/a> (17-6) started her second consecutive game for UAlbany, pitching all 5.2 innings of the game, giving up nine runs (four earned) on 10 hits with five strikeouts and one walk.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Stony Brook scored one run in the bottom of the first inning, and three more in the bottom of the third.\u00a0 After a scoreless fourth and fifth, Stony Brook scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth, including a grand slam by the Seawolves\u2019 center fielder, ending the game after taking a 9-0 lead.\u00a0 UAlbany committed three errors during the game.<\/span><\/p>\n

UAlbany\u2019s best scoring opportunity came in the bottom of the third inning, after Jess Tate<\/a> worked a walk to lead off the inning.\u00a0 She was thrown out at second when Alexa Toole<\/a> hit into a fielder\u2019s choice.\u00a0 Vicky McFarland<\/a> then hit a single, placing runners on first and second.\u00a0 Kelly Costello<\/a> grounded out to second, advancing Toole to third and McFarland to second.\u00a0 But Maggie Cocks<\/a> popped up to shortstop to end the inning, stranding the base runners.\u00a0 Offensively, McFarland hit 1-3.\u00a0 Charlise Castro<\/a> hit 2-3 with a double.\u00a0 And Toole hit 1-1.<\/span><\/p>\n

As a result of the loss, UAlbany will play Binghamton once again in an elimination game on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. \u00a0Binghamton defeated and eliminated UMBC 2-1 in Friday\u2019s late game. \u00a0The winner of the UAlbany\/Binghamton game will face Stony Brook in the championship round on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.\u00a0 Considering Stony Brook has yet to lose in the tournament, a loss by the Seawolves in that round would force a second game on Sunday to determine a champion.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
