{"id":10602,"date":"2014-05-16T09:48:50","date_gmt":"2014-05-16T09:48:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.techiteens.com\/review\/cocks-snow-and-macfawn-earn-all-region-honors\/"},"modified":"2014-05-16T09:48:50","modified_gmt":"2014-05-16T09:48:50","slug":"cocks-snow-and-macfawn-earn-all-region-honors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.techiteens.com\/review\/cocks-snow-and-macfawn-earn-all-region-honors\/","title":{"rendered":"Cocks, Snow, and MacFawn Earn All-Region Honors"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"post-2349\">\n<div>\n<p><span class=\"c23\"><strong>Cocks, Snow, and MacFawn Earn All-Region Honors<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c24\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/i0.wp.com\/image.cdnllnwnl.xosnetwork.com\/pics33\/640\/MO\/MOPPCDEELIKUTBC.20140515154542.png\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c24\">NFCA Division I All-Region Teams<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c24\"><strong>LOUISVILLE, Ky. \u2013<\/strong> The National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced Thursday the members of the regional first, second, and third teams for the 2014 season.\u00a0 UAlbany had three representatives named for the Northeast awards.\u00a0 Junior shortstop <a class=\"biolink\" href=\"http:\/\/redirect.viglink.com?key=11fe087258b6fc0532a5ccfc924805c0&#038;u=http%3A%2F%2Fredirect.viglink.com%3Fkey%3D11fe087258b6fc0532a5ccfc924805c0%26amp%3Bu%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.ualbanysports.com%252FViewArticle.dbml%253F%2526amp%253BATCLID%253D205820468%2526amp%253BDB_OEM_ID%253D15800\">Maggie Cocks<\/a>, and freshman catcher (named as utility player) <a class=\"biolink\" href=\"http:\/\/redirect.viglink.com?key=11fe087258b6fc0532a5ccfc924805c0&#038;u=http%3A%2F%2Fredirect.viglink.com%3Fkey%3D11fe087258b6fc0532a5ccfc924805c0%26amp%3Bu%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.ualbanysports.com%252FViewArticle.dbml%253F%2526amp%253BATCLID%253D209402441%2526amp%253BDB_OEM_ID%253D15800\">Elizabeth Snow<\/a> earned first team recognition, and senior pitcher <a class=\"biolink\" href=\"http:\/\/redirect.viglink.com?key=11fe087258b6fc0532a5ccfc924805c0&#038;u=http%3A%2F%2Fredirect.viglink.com%3Fkey%3D11fe087258b6fc0532a5ccfc924805c0%26amp%3Bu%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.ualbanysports.com%252FViewArticle.dbml%253F%2526amp%253BATCLID%253D205084502%2526amp%253BDB_OEM_ID%253D15800\">Brittany MacFawn<\/a> was named to the second team.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c24\">Cocks led the America East in hitting with a .409 batting average through the regular season.\u00a0 Cocks was also second in on base percentage, at .465, and second in hits, with 52.\u00a0 Additionally, Cocks hit four home runs and 32 RBIs, and scored 38 runs of her own.\u00a0 She was named America East Player of the Week on May 5.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c24\">Snow led the America East in doubles with 14 in her first season as a collegian.\u00a0 She was named America East Rookie of the Year, and was named conference Rookie of the Week three times, on February 25, April 14, and April 28.\u00a0 She was second on the team in hits (47) and home runs (6), and third in RBIs (30).\u00a0 Snow is responsible for forcing a deciding final game against Stony Brook in the America East Tournament championship round, when she hit a walk-off, three-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning to defeat defending champion, host, and top seeded Stony Brook 3-2.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c24\">MacFawn was named the America East Tournament Most Outstanding Player.\u00a0 She started and finished both games in the championship round of the conference tournament, going 17.0 innings giving up only three runs.\u00a0 She was named America East Pitcher of the Week three times, on April 7, April 14, and May 5.\u00a0 MacFawn threw two consecutive no-hitters, against UMass-Lowell in her final home start, and against UMBC.\u00a0 MacFawn became UAlbany\u2019s all-time leader in strikeouts, breaking Leah McIntosh\u2019s record of 725, and wins, breaking Casey Halloran\u2019s record of 73.\u00a0 Additionally, MacFawn became the all-time leader in appearances, complete games, starts, and innings pitched.\u00a0 She led the conference in ERA, with a 1.78, and strikeouts, with 182.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c24\">The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association\u2019s 10 regions with first, second and third teams selected for each region. The all-region teams were voted on by NFCA member coaches from each respective region, and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to one of three 2014 NFCA Division I All-American teams.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c24\">Three programs had all eight of their nominated players earn all-region accolades:\u00a0 No. 10 Arizona, No. 12 Oklahoma and Hofstra. No. 1 Oregon, No. 7 Georgia, No. 13 Michigan and No. 20 Notre Dame followed closely behind with seven selections each, while No. 2 UCLA, No. 4 Arizona State, No. 6 Florida, No. 8 Washington, No. 18 Tulsa, Wisconsin and Purdue all picked up six nods.
