{"id":11440,"date":"2014-06-28T02:51:19","date_gmt":"2014-06-28T02:51:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.techiteens.com\/review\/fanning-named-womens-track-spring-co-scholar-athlete-8\/"},"modified":"2014-06-28T02:51:19","modified_gmt":"2014-06-28T02:51:19","slug":"fanning-named-womens-track-spring-co-scholar-athlete-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.techiteens.com\/review\/fanning-named-womens-track-spring-co-scholar-athlete-8\/","title":{"rendered":"Fanning Named Women\u2019s Track Spring Co-Scholar-Athlete"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"post-2419\">\n<div>\n<p><span class=\"c22\"><strong>Fanning Named Women\u2019s Track Spring Co-Scholar-Athlete<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c23\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.techiteens.com\/review\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/491a1__WYQPARPUVBALHKB.20140625192551.png\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c23\">America East Release<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c23\"><strong>CAMBRIDGE, Mass. \u2013<\/strong> University at Albany senior <a class=\"biolink\" href=\"http:\/\/redirect.viglink.com?key=11fe087258b6fc0532a5ccfc924805c0&#038;u=http%3A%2F%2Fredirect.viglink.com%3Fkey%3D11fe087258b6fc0532a5ccfc924805c0%26amp%3Bu%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.ualbanysports.com%252FViewArticle.dbml%253F%2526amp%253BATCLID%253D205086886%2526amp%253BDB_OEM_ID%253D15800\">Kathryn Fanning<\/a> has been named America East Women\u2019s Outdoor Track Co-Scholar-Athlete for the 2014 season, the conference offices announced Wednesday.\u00a0 Fanning, one of nine athletes recognized for the award, shares the outdoor track award with Cross Country and Indoor Track Scholar-Athlete Olivia Burne from Stony Brook.\u00a0 Additional winners were Hartford\u2019s Tate Klidonas for men\u2019s lacrosse, Vermont\u2019s Vanessa VanderZalm for women\u2019s lacrosse, Maine\u2019s Kelton Cullenberg for men\u2019s outdoor track, Binghamton\u2019s Robin Lesage for men\u2019s tennis, Stony Brook\u2019s Cassandra Dix for women\u2019s tennis, Binghamton\u2019s Jake Thomas for baseball, and Stony Brook\u2019s Allison Cukrov for softball.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c23\">Fanning, a native of Manlius, New York, pulled a 3.98 GPA as a Biology major.\u00a0 She is a published author in the Journal of Neuroscience and a researcher at the RNA Institute.\u00a0 Fanning has been named to the All-Academic squads for all three seasons during her senior year, cross country in the fall, indoor track in the winter, and outdoor track in the spring.\u00a0 Additonally, she has earned All-Academic honors for outdoor track in 2013, indoor track in 2013 and 2012, and cross country in 2012 and 2011, accumulating a total of eight such awards.\u00a0 This year, she was granted the SUNY Chancellor\u2019s Scholar-Athlete Award, as well as the Chancellor\u2019s Award for Excellence.\u00a0 Fanning was also nominated to the pool for America East Woman of the Year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c23\">Athletically, Fanning broke her own school record in the 1,500 at America East Outdoor Championships, finishing second overall in 4:22.81.\u00a0 She earned a conference title as a member of UAlbany\u2019s victorious 4\u00d7800 relay.\u00a0 After sitting out ECAC Championships for her graduation ceremony, Fanning returned to the track for the NCAA East Preliminaries, breaking her school record again in the 1,500, running 4:18.68.\u00a0 In addition to her school record in the 1,500, Fanning ranks fourth all-time in the 800 at 2:10.55.\u00a0 She leaves UAlbany as the school record holder in the indoor 1,000 (2:46.70) and mile (4:43.23), and as a member of the indoor distance medley relay (11:34.18) and outdoor 4\u00d7800 relay (8:48.82) as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c23\">The Scholar-Athletes were members of teams in the eight championship sports which America East sponsored in the winter season including men\u2019s and women\u2019s lacrosse, men\u2019s and womens outdoor track &amp; field, men\u2019s and women\u2019s tennis, baseball and softball. Member institutions of the America East Conference for the 2013-14 spring season included Albany, Binghamton University, University of Hartford, Maine, UMBC, UMass Lowell, University of New Hampshire, Stony Brook and University of Vermont.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c23\">Nominees were put forward by their institution, which could nominate up to one student-athlete per sport. Then, a committee of athletic administrators and NCAA Faculty Athletics Representatives chose an honoree in each of the five winter championship sports. Each America East Scholar-Athlete was a starter or prominent reserve and carries a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.50.
