Men\u2019s Basketball Adds Blake Metcalf to 2014-15 Staff<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

ALBANY, N.Y.<\/strong> \u2013 University at Albany men\u2019s basketball head coach <\/a><\/a>Will Brown<\/a> announced the appointment of former center Blake Metcalf<\/a> to the staff for the 2014-15 season. The Camby, Indiana native will be the team\u2019s video coordinator after serving as an assistant coach at the College of Saint Rose last year.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI am excited to add Blake to our staff,\u201d said Brown. \u201cHe is a former captain and one of the hardest workers to ever wear a Great Danes uniform. I am looking forward to working with Blake to help him develop as a coach. I am confident he will have a positive impact on our program.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Metcalf returns to UAlbany after spending one season as an assistant coach under Brian Beaury at Saint Rose. In his tenure with the Golden Knights, he was involved with all aspects of the program including player development, scouting, recruiting, travel, video exchange and strength & conditioning. Metcalf helped Saint Rose reach the NE-10 quarterfinals in 2014.<\/span><\/p>\n

Last summer, Metcalf coached in three camps under Brown, Stony Brook coach Steve Pikiell and closer to home at Purdue with head coach Matt Painter. He was also a summer camp director at the Red Pride basketball camp before beginning his distinguished career as a Great Dane.<\/span><\/p>\n

As a player under <\/a><\/a>Will Brown<\/a> from 2009-13, Metcalf was a three-time captain and appeared in a program-record 133 games. The Great Danes won 66 games in Metcalf\u2019s career, including an all-time season high 24 contests in his senior season. He was a member of the 2011-12 squad that reached the CIT and the 2012-13 team that advanced to the NCAA Second Round. Metcalf graduated as the program\u2019s Division I leader in career offensive rebounds (227) and ranks second in career rebounds with 598. He earned a degree in sociology with a minor in business administration.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt feels great to be back where I played for four years,\u201d said Metcalf. \u201cUAlbany has always been a second home to me and I\u2019m looking forward to coming back to be part of the staff. I can\u2019t thank Coach Brown enough for giving me this opportunity, and I\u2019m extremely excited to work under him to learn and grow as a coach myself.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
