UAlbany Volleyball Predicted to Finish Fourth in Preseason America East Poll<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. \u2013<\/strong> 2013 America East semifinalist UAlbany has been predicted to finish fourth in the 2014 season in the conference\u2019s preseason poll, released on Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Great Danes are coming off a 9-19 season, going 9-5 in the America East to tie for second in the league in 2013.\u00a0 The team returned nine letterwinners, including Viktoriia Stroilo<\/a><\/strong>, the two-time reigning America East Defensive Player of the Year, and Amanda Dolan<\/a><\/strong>, the 2013 America East Rookie of the Year.\u00a0 Three returning players, Dolan, Tatum Jungsten<\/a><\/strong> and Amy Hunter<\/a><\/strong>, had at least 175 kills last season.\u00a0 Dolan, Jungsten and Sofia Furlong<\/a><\/strong> led the team in blocks last year and are all back, plus the team\u2019s primary setter, All-Rookie Team member Mikala McCauley<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was the 12th<\/sup>-consecutive season the Great Danes earned a berth in the America East Tournament, falling in the semifinals to UMBC.<\/span><\/p>\n

UAlbany got 21 points in the poll to place in fourth.\u00a0 Last year\u2019s league runner-up, UMBC, is predicted to finish first with 33 points, while reigning conference champion New Hampshire is slated at second for 30 points, with each school getting three first-place votes.<\/span><\/p>\n

The poll was released one team at a time on the America East Twitter page on Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n

The team\u2019s first match is a week from Friday when the Great Danes take on Delaware at 7 p.m. in Newark.<\/span><\/p>\n
