An old saying is, \u201cAll good things must come to an end.\u201d<\/p>\n

Perhaps, for the Albany Student Press, the end is near.<\/p>\n

Recently, a decision was made that beginning in the 2015-16 academic year, the Albany Student Press will transform into an online-only platform.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a decision we didn\u2019t want to make, but it was a decision we needed to make,\u201d Albany Student Press editor-in-chief Michelle Checchi said.<\/p>\n

\u201cLong term, this should help us generate more content and help us solve our financial situation,\u201d Albany Student Press managing editor Kassie Parisi said. \u201cWe have been running on a loss for years, and this should help us fix that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Following 99 years of continuous printing, the Albany Student Press will no longer produce a print issue.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnline publications are the way of the future,\u201d Parisi said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur content has been great lately, and we need to be sure to get it to the largest possible audience,\u201d Checchi said. \u201cOur website has a wider range of readers than our print issue.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lately, newsstands around campus are seen with hundreds of copies of the ASP weeks after they are published.<\/p>\n

Some estimates say that nearly half of all the issues printed don\u2019t get picked up by readers and just sit on newsstands until they are recycled or thrown out.<\/p>\n

Longtime readers of the Albany Student Press may be disappointed that the ASP will not be printed for what was scheduled to be the 100th anniversary of the ASP\u2019s first printing in 1916.<\/p>\n

Only a few\u00a0issues of the Albany Student Press remain to be printed this year, before being scrapped for good.<\/p>\n

Last issues of the Albany Student Press will be published on Tuesday, May 5.<\/p>\n
