Besides this ultra-geeky distinction, <a href=\"http:\/\/www-03.ibm.com\/ibm\/history\/exhibits\/mainframe\/mainframe_PP704.html\" target=\"_blank\">the IBM 704<\/a> will leave its mark in computer history before it is discontinued on April 7, 1960. Both the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fortran\" target=\"_blank\">FORTRAN<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/LISP\" target=\"_blank\">LISP<\/a> programming languages were first developed for the IBM 704, as well as the first music application, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/MUSIC-N\" target=\"_blank\">MUSIC<\/a>. Physicist <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_Larry_Kelly%2C_Jr\" target=\"_blank\">John Larry Kelly, Jr.<\/a> of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bell_Labs\" target=\"_blank\">Bell Labs<\/a> will synthesize speech for the first time in history on an IBM 704.
