The
\nFlip SlideHD is the newest addition in line of HD pocket camcorders by Flip
\nvideo. With its 3 inch touch screen that
\nis able to tilt up for better viewing, it is one of the friendliest camcorders
\nto share videos on. It is also the most
\nexpensive camcorder in their line with prices starting at 279.99 on
\nAmazon.com.<\/p>\n

The
\nSlide\u2019s features, software, and video capabilities are very similar to its
\ncousin the Flip MinoHD Second Generation (see our June 11th<\/sup> review).\u00a0 Like the Mino, the Slide has a tripod mount
\nand an HDMI cable jack so you can connect the camcorder to your TV to watch
\nvideo or a tripod for steady recording.
\nAlso like the Mino, you have to buy the HDMI cable separate from the
\ncamera.\u00a0 They both record in 720p and
\nhave 2x digital zoom.\u00a0 They both have the
\nsame simple, easy to use control panels although the Slide\u2019s controls are all
\ntouch activated while the Mino has regular buttons.\u00a0 The only buttons on the Slide are on the side
\nof the unit to turn it on\/off and the switch to flip out the well known feature
\nof all Flip camcorders, the built in USB adapter to easily connect the
\ncamcorder to your computer.\u00a0\u00a0 Because
\nthey put all the buttons to use the Slide on the touch screen, when you\u2019re
\nrecording you have about the same viewing window as you would on the Mino
\nbecause the buttons take up a little more than half the screen.\u00a0 This does not happen during playback however
\nand you are able to utilize the entire screen to view your videos.<\/p>\n

Some
\nimprovements to the Slide have been increased memory and a larger screen that
\nis touch controlled.\u00a0 The Slide has 16GB
\nof memory which comes out to about 4 hours of recording time.\u00a0 The battery still only lasts for 2 hours so
\nthe increase in memory guarantees that if you start out with empty memory then
\nyou won\u2019t fill up the camcorder. The screen has become larger to make watching
\nthe videos you record easier, it slides up and tilts so that all you have to do
\nis place the camcorder on the table and then watch as you play your
\nmasterpieces.\u00a0 The screen makes watching
\nyour movies easier on the eyes and to navigate them you can either use the
\nscreen or a touch sensitive strip located on the inside that is revealed when
\nyou slide the screen up.\u00a0 The downside to
\nthe touch screen is that it will sometimes require more than one tap and maybe
\neven a firm press before it works.\u00a0 Also
\nwithout buttons, just as you would have to with a touch screen phone, you need
\nto look where you\u2019re going to press because there are no buttons to feel for.<\/p>\n

The Slide\u2019s
\nbody has also changed from brushed metal in the MinoHD to an all plastic body that
\nis white with a silver border on the screen.
\nThe plastic body has a noticeably different feel that it isn\u2019t as sturdy.\u00a0 It has also gotten bulkier.\u00a0 In the Flip line of cameras, it is second in
\nsize only to the Flip Ultra and UltraHD but not by much.\u00a0 This is something to consider when you\u2019re
\npurchasing a pocket camcorder because after all, it is supposed to fit
\ncomfortably in your pocket.<\/p>\n

It still comes with the computer software that the
\nother camcorders from the Flip line come with.
\nWith FlipShare, the Flip editing program, you can still easily upload
\nvideos to YouTube, Facebook, Myspace and other sharing websites with only a few
\nclicks of your mouse.\u00a0 You can also put
\nvideos that your friends have recorded and store them on your Slide to show off
\nwhen you\u2019re not by your computer.<\/p>\n

After
\nusing the Slide, nothing in the design was particularly revolutionary.\u00a0 By adding the touch screen, Flip had to make
\nsacrifices in both size and price.\u00a0 While
\nthe touch screen and larger viewing space were a good addition, it is not
\nnecessarily worth the drastic jump in price or size.<\/p>\n
