The 3G\/4G Sprint
\nOverdrive is not only a convenient bringing the internet with you anywhere, but
\na business asset allowing a total of 5 devices to be connected at once and use
\ninternet off of Sprint\u2019s 3G or 4G network.
\nAlthough the 4G network is not yet available everywhere, it is in
\nseveral larger cities and when the 4G network isn\u2019t available, the device automatically
\nswitches to Sprint\u2019s 3G network.\u00a0 You can
\ncheck to see if you have 4G coverage in your area by visiting Sprints\u2019 webpage
\n(<\/span>http:\/\/shop.sprint.com\/en\/stores\/popups\/4G_coverage_popup.shtml<\/span><\/strong><\/a>).<\/span><\/p>\n

The overdrives
\nsmall size lets you take it with you almost anywhere without being a
\nburden.\u00a0 At 4 \u00bd ounces and about the size
\nof a wallet it\u2019s easy to put in your back pocket and just forget it\u2019s even
\nthere.\u00a0 Anything from gaming systems, to
\nmp3 players, to laptops can all piggyback off the Overdrive\u2019s signal
\nsimultaneously within its 150 foot range.
\nThis makes it ideal product for college students or anyone who is on the
\ngo for the majority of their day.\u00a0 You
\ncan easily access the internet through Sprint\u2019s 3G or 4G networks during a car
\nride or outdoors and not have to worry about needing to find a coffee shop or a
\nrest stop in order to check your email or Facebook. It comes in very handy if you don\u2019t have a
\nBlackberry or Smartphone to do this, and sometimes phones just can\u2019t cut it and
\nit\u2019s just easier and faster to use a computer.
\nThe device even allows you to stream videos from sites like Hulu and
\nYouTube without missing a beat. <\/span><\/p>\n

The design and
\nfeatures included on the Overdrive are quite handy.\u00a0 It has a MicroSD slot can hold up to 16GB of
\ndata which can then be shared with the devices you currently have tethered with
\nthe Overdrive.\u00a0 Its LCD screen can be
\nprogrammed online to show a variety of symbols and status messages. Its Micro
\nUSB slot allows you to connect it to your computer directly and charge it;
\nhowever this will run down your laptop battery fairly quickly. It also has a setting to decrease the
\nbroadcast range of the Overdrive which will increase its battery life quite a
\nbit. <\/span><\/p>\n

Setup of the Overdrive
\ncouldn\u2019t be much simpler.\u00a0 All you have
\nto do is turn it on and it will come up on your computer\u2019s list of available
\nnetworks.\u00a0 There are no CDs or
\nprograms\/drivers to install and it is password protected so you don\u2019t have to
\nworry about someone using your network and running up your allowed usage on the
\n3G network.\u00a0 The network name and
\npassword is even displayed on the device\u2019s LCD screen so you don\u2019t have to
\nworry about remembering it or writing it down. This is a great feature because many people
\nhave been in the position where they write their network password down and then
\ncan never find it again.<\/span><\/p>\n

The overdrive is
\nnot without downfalls.\u00a0 Its battery lasts
\naround 3 hours which can be inconvenient if it dies in the middle of a trip,
\nwriting an email, or watching a video and you\u2019re stuck back in the Stone Age
\nwith a computer that needs to find a commercial hotspot or get within range of
\na modem.\u00a0 It also took a long time to
\nstart up, longer than most laptops, and in a society where time is money,
\nsitting around waiting to get access to the internet can be very
\nfrustrating.\u00a0 The device can also gets relatively
\nhot to the touch.\u00a0 It can get to the
\npoint where it feels about as hot as a running laptop that\u2019s sitting on your
\nlap.\u00a0 This doesn\u2019t seem like a big
\nproblem but it carries with it the potential to overheat so it is important to
\ntake that into consideration when purchasing this product. <\/span><\/p>\n

Verizon offers a
\nsimilar device called the MiFi.\u00a0 Many
\npeople ask why not just go with Verizons device?\u00a0 It\u2019s smaller, sports a longer battery life,
\nand can also connect 5 devices at once.
\nAlso Verizon 3G network is more extensive than Sprint\u2019s. But the key deal breaker could be the 4G
\naccess which the MiFi and Verizon lack. Sprint claims that their 4G network is up to
\n10x faster than 3G with download speeds averaging from 3-6 Mbps and peaking at
\nmore than 10Mbps compared to 3G\u2019s 600 kbps-1.7 Mbps. This speed boost is what
\nlets you play games and watch videos with minimal buffering time in relation to
\n3G.\u00a0 Another convince is the LCD screen
\npresent on the Overdrive that the MiFi is missing.\u00a0 This makes status messages and symbols easier
\nto read and decipher on the Overdrive than on the MiFi.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Overdrive
\ncosts about 100 dollars if you\u2019re willing to sign a two year contract with Sprint.\u00a0 After that it\u2019s about 60 dollars per month
\nfor 5GB of downloads on their 3G network and unlimited on their 4G network.\u00a0 This is about the same as the deal that\u2019s
\noffered with Verizon\u2019s MiFi device except their plan doesn\u2019t include any 4G
\ncoverage. So if you\u2019re in an area where
\nSprint already has, or will soon be developing 4G and you know that you\u2019re
\ngoing to be using more than 5G of downloads, which is easy to do if you like
\nwatching full movies or are into gaming, then you could save a lot of money by taking
\nadvantage of Sprint\u2019s plan. <\/span><\/p>\n
