ALBANY, N.Y<\/strong>. \u2013 The Great Danes women\u2019s soccer team tried to snap their losing streak against Hofstra on Sunday but fell to the Pride 6-0 in the first home game at the Plumeri Sports Complex.<\/span><\/p>\n

UAlbany (1-4) got some early opportunities in the first half.\u00a0 Kelly Kempf<\/a><\/strong> put a free kick into the ox but no shot came.\u00a0 A minute later, Aubrey VanGorder<\/a><\/strong> ripped a corner kick into the box, but a jumping save by Emily Morphitis prevented a shot attempt.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the 11th<\/sup> minute, Sam Scolarici found Leah Galton in the box.\u00a0 Galton shot from the left side and scored to give Hofstra (3-3) the lead.\u00a0 Two minutes later, Galton set up Scolarici near the goal box as Scolarici scored to make it 2-0 Hofstra.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Great Danes tried to counter in the coming minutes.\u00a0 After a corner that did not result in a shot, the ball came to Kari Quinn<\/a><\/strong> from about 30 yards away.\u00a0 Quinn rocketed a shot, missing the cage just wide right.\u00a0 Later VanGorder had a similar opportunity and shot the ball, but right at the keeper on the left side of the net.\u00a0 The team held defensively the rest of the half as Hofstra led 2-0 at the break.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the opening of the second half, coach Caitlin Colfer<\/a><\/strong> switched up her starting lineup, including putting Allison Carhart<\/a><\/strong> in the game.\u00a0 In the period\u2019s opening minutes, Carhart got the ball near the edge of the 18-yard box, turned around and kicked hard, but the shot went high.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hofstra got a corner kick chance in the 50th<\/sup> minute.\u00a0 Using the strong wind, Ruby Staplehurst\u2019s shot found the far upper corner of the goal to make it 3-0 Hofstra.<\/span><\/p>\n

Chances for UAlbany were few in the rest of the second half. \u00a0Hofstra added three more goals on a Caylin Dudley free kick in minute #58, a breakaway from Scolarici in the 71st<\/sup> minute, and a rebound off a corner kick that Jeannine Molleda put in the goal in the 74th<\/sup> minute.\u00a0 UAlbany was not able to get on the board and fell 6-0.<\/span><\/p>\n

Quinn led the Great Danes in shots with three, putting two on goal.\u00a0 Despite the loss, Alana Brennan<\/a><\/strong> made eight saves in the game.<\/span><\/p>\n

For Hofstra, Scolarici finished with\u00a0five points off two goals and an assist.\u00a0 The goalie win went to Emily Morphitis, who played the first half with three saves.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Friday, UAlbany will head to Buffalo to take on Canisius for a 7 p.m. game.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
