SCHENECHTADY, N.Y. \u2013<\/strong> The University at Albany men\u2019s soccer team couldn\u2019t convert on a momentum swing in the last five minutes against Bucknell on Friday night and lost 1-0.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBucknell played very hard and really earned the win,\u201d said head coach Trevor Gorman<\/a>. \u201cWe have to be smarter in some of our choices on the field, but we\u2019re really looking forward to our first true home game on Sunday.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The match got off to a slow start in the first half, but quickly picked up the pace in the second period of play. Bucknell got the ball rolling just two minutes in, with Jesse Klug scoring on a quick shot outside the 18-yard box.<\/span><\/p>\n

UAlbany started to see its best offensive chances late in the second half. Philip Persson<\/a> gave the Great Danes their first spark on a dangerous touch off a free kick with 12 minutes to play.<\/span><\/p>\n

With under four minutes left Thomas Manz<\/a> headed a corner from Persson just wide of the net. Brandon Wilson<\/a> charged down the field on a breakaway minutes later, firing a shot that was saved by Bison goalkeeper Mike Lansing.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the final seconds of the match, Manz hit the crossbar on a header with service from Pomare Te Anau<\/a>. Wilson controlled the rebound but fired a shot wide as time expired.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tim Allen<\/a> made six saves in net for the Great Danes.<\/span><\/p>\n

UAlbany held a 7-2 advantage on corner kicks, and took three times more shots in the second half than the first. Five of those attempts came in the last four minutes of regulation. Bucknell failed to register a shot in the last 33 minutes of the match.<\/span><\/p>\n

UAlbany will play the first soccer match held at Bob Ford Field on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 6 p.m., against No. 22 Fairleigh Dickinson.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
