Field Hockey Overcomes Early Goal to Down Yale 4-2<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

ALBANY, N.Y. \u2013<\/strong> The University at Albany field hockey team navigated unfamiliar territory on Saturday afternoon when the squad came back from a 1-0 deficit to win 4-2 against Yale.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSometimes getting off to such a great start, going 3-0 can hurt you,\u201d said head coach Phil Sykes<\/a>. \u201cYale played well and put us on our heels early. They\u2019re a well-coached team and we had to dig deep to find something in the second half.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In the second minute, Yale\u2019s Brooke Gogel charged down the field and fired a shot from the top of the circle to give the Bulldogs an early 1-0 lead. It was the first time this season the Great Danes have had to play from behind in their 4-0 start.<\/span><\/p>\n

Freshman Paula Heuser<\/a> responded in the ninth minute off a rebounded penalty corner. Yale entered halftime with a 2-1 lead after converting on a penalty corner as the first half expired.<\/span><\/p>\n

UAlbany turned up the pressure in the second half. Sophomore Liza Morgan<\/a> tallied her sixth goal of the season on a scramble in the circle after a penalty corner.<\/span><\/p>\n

Midfielder Fiori Van Rijswijk<\/a> inserted two more penalty corners for goals in the second half. Daphne Voormolen<\/a> scored her third goal of the season off a corner from Van Rijswijk in the 50th minute to give UAlbany the lead.<\/span><\/p>\n

Paula Heuser<\/a> tallied her second goal of the day on a penalty corner in the 60th minute. The insurance goal was Heuser\u2019s third of the season.<\/span><\/p>\n

UAlbany returns to action on Sunday against Rutgers at 2 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
