STONY BROOK, N.Y. \u2013<\/strong> University at Albany men\u2019s soccer (1-7-2, 0-1-0 AE) suffered its first America East loss in its league opener at Stony Brook (5-4-0, 1-0-0 AE) 1-0 on Friday night.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cTonight was a typical conference battle,\u201d said head coach Trevor Gorman<\/a>. \u201cWe had some great moments in the game. We felt we were on top late in the game and in overtime. It\u2019s always tough to lose in overtime, but we will continue to improve and get ready for the next one.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The Great Danes out-shot the Seawolves 4-2 in the opening 30 minutes of the contest, with Brandon Wilson<\/a>, Thomas Manz<\/a> and Anthony Rozzano<\/a> all firing shots just off-target. The teams combined for only six shots and four corner kicks in the first half.<\/span><\/p>\n

UAlbany and Stony Brook went back and forth for much of the second half. Luke Palmateer<\/a> had the team\u2019s best scoring opportunity late in regulation. Off a free kick, Palmateer looked to convert on a scramble in front of the net, but a defender cleared the ball off the goal line.<\/span><\/p>\n

Neither team earned a corner kick in the second half of play. At the end of regulation, each team had taken just two shots on goal apiece.<\/span><\/p>\n

Stony Brook notched the gamewinner in the 98th minute on a cross through the 18-yard box. Martin Giordano one-timed the service into the back of the net.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Great Danes have seen extra time four times so far this season, posting a record of 0-2-2 in overtime.<\/span><\/p>\n

Next up for UAlbany is Yale on Tuesday at Bob Ford Field. The game is slated to begin at 7 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
