Comeback Attempt on Paltsios Goal Falls Short, Great Danes Defeated 3-1 by UMBC<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

BALTIMORE \u2013<\/strong> A Caitlyn Paltsios<\/a><\/strong> goal scored in the 81st<\/sup> minute nearly spurred a UAlbany comeback, but the Great Danes fell to UMBC 3-1 to finish the road trip.<\/span><\/p>\n

UAlbany (1-10-1, 0-2-1 AE) successfully defended against three shots and a pair of corner before Lizzie Bamber<\/a><\/strong> got off a shot in the 12th<\/sup> minute, but keeper Lauren Kadet made the save.<\/span><\/p>\n

The fourth UMBC (7-4-2, 2-1 AE) shot saw Meg Kowalski take a ball off a defender and put it into the right side of the box past Alana Brennan<\/a><\/strong> for a 1-0 home team lead.<\/span><\/p>\n

Brennan kept defending in goal, making six saves through the first half. \u00a0Allison Carhart<\/a><\/strong> \u00a0made a couple of shots in the waning minutes of the half, but both were blocked.\u00a0 UAlbany trailed 1-0 at the break.<\/span><\/p>\n

Out of the gate in the second half, Alexa Quaranta hit an arch shot over Brennan\u2019s head into the 47th<\/sup> minute to push UMBC up 2-0.<\/span><\/p>\n

Coach Caitlin Colfer<\/a><\/strong> used an array of substitutions before the 60th<\/sup> minute to try to change things up.\u00a0 UAlbany attacked the left side of the net with a Helena Olafsdottir<\/a><\/strong> shot in the 61st<\/sup> minute and an Alexa Schneider<\/a><\/strong> shot in the 64th<\/sup>, but neither turned into goals.<\/span><\/p>\n

After Paltsios missed a shot above the goal in the previous minute, into minute 81 she took a deflection and kicked the ball into the net, putting UAlbany within striking distance at 2-1.<\/span><\/p>\n

The other way, UMBC earned a free kick after a UAlbany foul.\u00a0 Amira Walcott pocketed the free kick into the bottom right to put the lead back at two 3-1.<\/span><\/p>\n

A couple late shots from Anna Hogan<\/a><\/strong> and Kari Quinn<\/a><\/strong> did not end in goals as the Great Danes were defeated 3-1 by the Retrievers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Paltsios earned her second goal of the year with the score.\u00a0 Carhart led the team with three shots.\u00a0 Brennan made eight saves in goal.<\/span><\/p>\n

For UMBC, Quaranta shot the ball 10 times, ending with a goal.\u00a0 The victory went to Kadet, who had five saves.<\/span><\/p>\n

UAlbany returns home to take on in-state rival Binghamton at Bob Ford Field on Thursday, October 10th<\/sup> at 7 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
