BURLINGTON, Vt.<\/strong> \u2013 A Krista Fitzpatrick<\/a><\/strong> goal in the second half eventually forced overtime, but an Amanda Moschella long range score sent UAlbany home with a defeat 2-1 on Thursday.<\/span><\/p>\n

Vermont got the first opportunity in the fifth minute with a turnaround shot from Nikki McFarland. Alana Brennan<\/a><\/strong> made the save on the right side.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the ninth minute, Caitlyn Paltsios<\/a><\/strong> tried to recover after a cross flew over the box without a touch.\u00a0 Paltsios crossed the ball back into the 18.\u00a0 Kari Quinn<\/a><\/strong> headed the ball towards the net, but Morgan Nichols made the save.<\/span><\/p>\n

Later, UAlbany got another opportunity on a counterattack.\u00a0 After a deflection, Helena Olafsdottir<\/a><\/strong> kicked the ball hard, but the attempt was blocked.<\/span><\/p>\n

The offense stalled on both sides for a while.\u00a0 In the 29th<\/sup> minute, Olafsdottir got another opportunity on an Erin Savoldy<\/a><\/strong> cross, but the ball went high over the net.<\/span><\/p>\n

Two opportunities for UAlbany came later as Paltsios received the cross from Quinn, but missed it wide.\u00a0 Shortly thereafter, Savoldy tried to cross it again, but the ball went out before an attempt.<\/span><\/p>\n

Each side exchanged a couple of corners, but neither side connected in the first half.<\/span><\/p>\n

Three minutes into the second half, Bre Pletnick got a pass from McFarland, kicking the ball into the right side of the net to put Vermont in front 1-0.<\/span><\/p>\n

About five minutes later, Alexa Schneider<\/a><\/strong> intercepted a pass and found streaking Quinn down the side.\u00a0 Quinn shot the ball to the left, but a diving Nichols stopped the ball.\u00a0 On a counterattack, a turnaround shot from Pletnick was saved by Brennan in the center.<\/span><\/p>\n

As the clock hit 28:00, Schneider kicked the ball to a running Fitzpatrick.\u00a0 Fitzpatrick kicked the ball from long range, which was deflected by a turned-around defender into the right side of the net for the score, tying the game at 1-1.<\/span><\/p>\n

UAlbany continued the attack with a corner from Fitzpatrick.\u00a0 Schneider got a header on the ball, hitting the left post and keeping the score tied.<\/span><\/p>\n

With 22 minutes left in the half, Haley Marks got a free kick near the left side of the box.\u00a0 She kicked into the right side of the wall, and an offsides penalty on Vermont a few seconds later stopped the chance.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the 83rd<\/sup> minute, Brennan made a huge save on a looping shot by Caitie Green, jumping and punching the ball over the net.\u00a0 After a corner was kicked away by Shelby Belak<\/a><\/strong>, Olafsdottir hurried down the line and got off a shot, but Nichols made the save.<\/span><\/p>\n

UAlbany made a push in the final minute of the second half, with a long range Quinn shot being saved to the right.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the overtime\u2019s opening minute, Olafsdottir kicked a ball off a defender to earn a corner.\u00a0 Fitzpatrick took the corner as the ball got headed straight up into the air, and kicked to the right by Olafsdottir.<\/span><\/p>\n

Later, Maggie Couett<\/a><\/strong> made a free kick and put the ball into the box, but Nichols grabbed the ball before nearby Anna Hogan<\/a><\/strong> could make a shot.<\/span><\/p>\n

Vermont countered in the waning minutes of the first OT, getting a free kick from Marks towards to left post.\u00a0 The ball was not touched and was picked up by Brennan.<\/span><\/p>\n

A last gasp effort in the first overtime by Schneider missed wide right, sending the game to a second overtime.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the fourth minute of the second overtime, Brennan tried to clear a ball away, but her kick was stopped by Moschella.\u00a0 Moschella kicked the ball towards the net, finding the top of the net with 6:27 left.\u00a0 Vermont took the win 2-1 in double overtime.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fitzpatrick earned her first goal of the season, while Schneider got her team-best seventh point.\u00a0 Moschella\u2019s goal was also her first of the year.<\/span><\/p>\n

UAlbany will get the weekend off and will play Maine at Bob Ford Field on Thursday, October 24th<\/sup> at 7 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
