{"id":715,"date":"2011-07-03T14:28:04","date_gmt":"2011-07-03T18:28:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/techiteens.wordpress.com\/?p=715"},"modified":"2013-07-23T16:32:40","modified_gmt":"2013-07-23T16:32:40","slug":"the-future-of-wifi-linksys-e4200","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.techiteens.com\/review\/the-future-of-wifi-linksys-e4200\/","title":{"rendered":"The Future of WiFi: Linksys E4200"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align:center;\">Linksys E4200 Dual-Band Wireless-N Router<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"padding-right:8px;padding-top:8px;padding-bottom:8px;\" src=\"http:\/\/media.techworld.com\/cmsdata\/products\/3264685\/Linksys_E4200_550.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"542\" height=\"381\" \/><\/h1>\n<p>If your router isn\u2019t providing you with the speed and range you need in order to browse the internet from the farthest corners of your home, it may be worth giving the Linksys E4200 Dual Band Router from Cisco a test run in your home.<\/p>\n<p>Upon examination, you can tell that the E4200 departs slightly from traditional router design.\u00a0 It takes away the flashing lights that are usually on the front of the router and moves them to the back next to the Ethernet ports.\u00a0 The only light on the front is a soft white light with the Cisco logo on it which shines solid to indicate the router is working and pulses if there is a problem.\u00a0 This leaves the outside of the router simple and sleek, a great feature if your router is in a visible place in your house.\u00a0 The back also has four Gigabit Ethernet ports so you can hardwire quite a few devices to the router.<\/p>\n<p>Setting up the router was a breeze.\u00a0 You can use the Cisco Connect software that comes with the Linksys or you can set the router up manually online if you\u2019re connected to the internet.\u00a0 Both worked well and got the job done, but Cisco Connect maps out the setup steps better than the online version, while the online version offered more customization with setting up port forwarding and parental controls.\u00a0 In the end the best path to take depends on the users preferences.\u00a0 If you need something that\u2019s easy to follow the Connect software is best.<\/p>\n<p>The Linksys operates on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies, the 2.4 GHz giving you more speed while the 5 GHz gives you a longer range.\u00a0 The 5GHz band gives you up to 450 Mbps and the 2.4 GHz gives you up to 300 Mbps.\u00a0 Although you\u2019re not likely to reach these advertised speeds, with normal usage you can easily average 70-100 Mbps.\u00a0 Both bands will allow you to stream movies and play games without having to worry about lagging, even with several computers running off the router and over distances of about 150-200 feet away.<\/p>\n<p>Another good feature of the Linksys is its Network Attached Storage function.\u00a0 The router has a USB port so you can plug in a USB thumb drive or External Hard Drive and share the files with anyone on the network. \u00a0Although it wasn\u2019t quite fast enough to stream movies this way, music and files were easy to share and access.\u00a0 The Linksys also lets you set up a guest network on the 2.4 GHz band for up to 10 computers at once.\u00a0 With this feature, if you only want someone to have access to the internet and not your shared files, then you can easily set them up as a guest knowing your network is safe.<\/p>\n<p>Using the Linksys was great.\u00a0 Its range and speed were exceptional, but unfortunately so was its price tag.\u00a0 The E4200 costs around 179.99, but if other routers aren\u2019t able to keep up with you, it\u2019ll be worth the price to minimize your frustration.\u00a0 The only shortcoming of the E4200 was its guest networking capabilities.\u00a0 Since it can only accommodate 10 computers at a time, it wouldn\u2019t be ideal to rely on this feature to set up a hotspot in a public place.<\/p>\n<h3>Grab yours now:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/homestore.cisco.com\/en-us\/Routers\/Linksys-E4200-MaximumPerformance-Wirelessn-router_stcVVproductId122703236VVcatId551966VVviewprod.htm\">Cisco.com: $179.99<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B004K1EZDS\/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=9490-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=217145&amp;creative=399373&amp;creativeASIN=B004K1EZDS&tag=luupwebsite-20\">Amazon.com: 159.99<\/a><\/h3>\n<h3>This review and many more brought to you by TechiTeens Technology Services.
