{"id":7536,"date":"2013-12-18T15:46:13","date_gmt":"2013-12-18T15:46:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.techiteens.com\/review\/baseball-inks-six-in-early-signing-period-2\/"},"modified":"2013-12-18T15:46:13","modified_gmt":"2013-12-18T15:46:13","slug":"baseball-inks-six-in-early-signing-period-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.techiteens.com\/review\/baseball-inks-six-in-early-signing-period-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Baseball Inks Six In Early Signing Period"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><span class=\"c24\"><strong><span class=\"c23\">Baseball Inks Six In Early Signing Period<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c24\"><strong><span class=\"c23\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.wp.com\/image.cdnllnwnl.xosnetwork.com\/pics33\/640\/MP\/MPCLPWHOKEBFUKL.20131216225544.jpg?resize=640%2C480\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c25\"><strong>ALBANY, N.Y. \u2013<\/strong> Continuing its reputation of reaping top-notch recruiting classes, the University at Albany baseball program has inked six standout ballplayers to National Letters of Intent in the early signing period.\u00a0High school signees Kenneth Hayden (Mount Kisco, N.Y.), Shawn Blake (Stratford, Conn.), Michael Adams (Mechanicsburg, Pa.), and Michael Milo (Scarsdale, N.Y.), as well as Junior College transfers Trevor DeMerritt (San Jose, Calif.) and Karson Canaday (Sonora, Calif.) will make up head coach Jon Mueller\u2019s 2014-15 incoming class.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c25\">\u201cWe are extremely excited to add these talented student-athletes to our team,\u201d said Mueller.\u00a0\u201cWith great effort and determination, this group will have an immediate impact in 2015.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><strong><span class=\"c25\">High School Signees:<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><span class=\"c25\">KENNETH HAYDEN \u2013 OF<br \/><\/span><\/strong><span class=\"c25\">Kenneth Hayden is an outfielder from Mount Kisco, N.Y. and attends Fox Lane High School.\u00a0Hayden hit .384 with six extra-base hits while scoring 23 runs in 22 games during his junior season. Hayden earned all-league honors, while making all of his 22 starts in centerfield.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c25\"><strong>Mueller on Hayden:<\/strong> \u201cKenny is a defensive minded outfielder who runs at an above-average level, registering as low as 6.4 seconds in the 60 yard dash.\u00a0 His ability to defend will benefit the middle of our outfield.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span class=\"c25\">SHAWN BLAKE \u2013 1B\/OF\u2028<br \/><\/span><\/strong><span class=\"c25\">Shawn Blake, a first baseman and outfielder, is from Stratford, Conn. and attends Fairfield College Preparatory. \u00a0Blake was the starting first baseman for the Jesuits last season and helped lead them to the Class LL state semifinals for the first time in 20 years. \u00a0He received numerous accolades, including All-SCC Quinnipiac Division and New Haven Register All-Area Team honors. He was also selected to play in the Connecticut High School Coaches Association Junior All-Star Game. \u00a0Perfect Game has ranked Blake\u00a0as one of the top players in the state of Connecticut. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c25\"><strong>Mueller on Blake:<\/strong> \u201cShawn is an athletic player who we expect to contribute immediately either at first base or corner outfield. \u00a0He has a fluid left-handed swing which will allow him to make the adjustments necessary to hit Division I pitching.\u201d \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c25\"><strong>MICHAEL ADAMS \u2014 RHP<\/strong><br \/>Michael Adams, a right-handed pitcher from Mechanicsburg, Pa., attends Cumberland Valley High School. \u00a0Adams was selected to the Mid Penn Conference All-Star Team. \u00a0Adams was also selected to the Team Pennsylvania roster for the Big 26 Baseball Classic. \u00a0This summer Adams led Hampden Township to a 30-5 record and Region 4 runner-up finish in the Pennsylvania American Legion playoffs. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c25\"><strong>Mueller on Adams:<\/strong> \u201cMichael is a big right-handed pitcher with very good mechanics to go along with his upper 80\u2032s fastball. \u00a0His 6\u20195\u2033 frame and advanced feel for two off-speed pitches has us excited for the impact he will have on our pitching staff.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c25\"><strong>MICHAEL MILO \u2014 INF<\/strong><br \/>Michael Milo is a third baseman from Scarsdale, NY and attends Eastchester Senior High School. \u00a0Milo was named All-Section I First Team. \u00a0Milo hit .552 with eight extra-base hits and 17 RBIs as a junior while playing shortstop for Eastchester. \u00a0He sustained a shoulder injury, which cut his summer with the NJ Marlins short, but he is well ahead of his rehab timeline. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c25\"><strong>Mueller on Milo:<\/strong> \u201cMichael is a very athletic, well-built young man who played shortstop in high school but projects as a third baseman for us. \u00a0He has a pure swing, good hands and feet, and will compete for playing time his freshman year.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span class=\"c25\">Junior College Signees:<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c25\"><strong>TREVOR DEMERRITT \u2013 INF<\/strong><br \/>Trevor DeMerritt, a shortstop from San Jose, Calif., attends West Valley College. \u00a0He was named First Team All-Coast Golden Gate Conference as a freshman, batting .303 with nine stolen bases. \u00a0DeMerritt played in the NorCal JC Showcase this past fall. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c25\"><strong>Mueller on DeMerritt:<\/strong> \u201cTrevor is a hard-nosed player whose athleticism on defense and ability to handle the bat will make him an immediate impact player for us next year. \u00a0He has a strong arm, great range and can run. We are looking forward to him making the quick adjustment to DI baseball in the America East.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c25\"><strong>KARSON CANADAY \u2013 INF\u2028<\/strong><br \/>Karson Canaday, a second baseman from Sonora, Calif., currently attends West Hills College. Canaday was a Second Team All Central Valley Conference selection as a freshman. In his rookie season, he logged 23 stolen bases and hit .358 with 28 runs and 10 doubles.
