Moore, who passed away overnight December 22nd at the age of 87.\u00a0 Dr. Moore was a driving force behind a great deal of growth in the UAlbany Athletic Department during his tenure from 1983 to 1993.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c26\">During his decade of service at UAlbany, Moore oversaw the construction of both SEFCU Arena and The Bubble, created the Athletic Hall of Fame, and moved athletics funding under State of New York governance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c26\">He was also chair of the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame Capital District Chapter, and a member of the Albany Police Athletic League\u2019s Board of Directors. Moore was inducted into UAlbany\u2019s Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c26\">Moore began his 57-year career in athletic administration at Shepherd State College in 1951 where he was the athletics director and head football and basketball coach. In 1953, Moore took on coaching roles at Central Connecticut State University. There, he went on to serve as the director of athletics, health, and physical education for 21 years (1962-83) before taking the AD position for the Great Danes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c26\">After 10 years at UAlbany, Moore became the commissioner of the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC).\u00a0The Great Danes competed in that league as a Division II program before upgrading to Division I.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c26\">Prior to retirement, Moore served as the first independent commissioner of the Little East Conference, directing the league\u2019s 19 championship sports between 2000 and 2008.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c26\">Aside from his athletics director experience, Moore also served on numerous athletics committees, including the NCAA Postseason Football Committee and the NCAA Legislative Interpretations Committee. He was the president of the Eastern College Basketball Association from 1979-81, the president of the Eastern College Athletic Conference in 1985-86, and a member of the ECAC Division III Basketball Selection Committee.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c26\">A 2008 inductee into the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Hall of Fame, Moore is also a member of the Athletics Halls of Fame at Central Connecticut State and in Cleveland, Tennessee.
