STONY BROOK, N.Y. \u2013<\/strong> To defend their first-place standing in the America East, the Great Danes head to Long Island to take on in-state rival and second place team Stony Brook at the Pritchard Gymnasium on Thursday, January 30th at 7 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Tuesday, UAlbany defeated UMBC 65-39 for its eighth victory in a row, going into Thursday at 17-3 overall and 7-0 in the America East to stand in first place.\u00a0 Stony Brook is on a five-game winning streak, coming off a 65-49 road win over Maine on Sunday, to be in second place in the league at 6-1 and 15-5 overall.<\/span><\/p>\n

UAlbany sports a 26-21 advantage in the longtime SUNY rivalry, winning the last seven contests, including a 60-49 win at SEFCU on March 2, 2013 to secure a perfect league record in 2012-13.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tickets for the game are five dollars for general admission and are available on Stony Brook\u2019s athletic site or at the door an hour before tipoff.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Great Danes have gone 4-1 against in-state opponents they have faced so far this season, earning victories over Siena, Marist, Colgate and Binghamton.\u00a0 All four wins were by double digits.<\/span><\/p>\n

This matchup will see the two top scorers in the conference face off, with UAlbany\u2019s Shereesha Richards<\/a><\/strong> averaging a league-best 22.4 points a game, and Stony Brook\u2019s Sabre Proctor in second at 15.6 points a game.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sarah Royals<\/a><\/strong> will look to join UAlbany assistant royalty on Thursday.\u00a0 With two more assists, adding to her 252 in her career, she can join the top-10 all-time in UAlbany assists.\u00a0 Margarita Rosario<\/a><\/strong> has also been a strong player on UAlbany\u2019s perimeter this season, standing second in the league with 4.4 assists per game, averaging nearly five each conference contest.<\/span><\/p>\n

Stony Brook stands with a 6-1 record in league play having not fallen in regulation in a conference game.\u00a0 Third-year head coach Beth O\u2019Boyle has led a team that won four games in her first season to 15 wins so far in the 2013-14 season.\u00a0 Standing second in the conference in scoring, America East Preseason All-Conference junior forward Proctor, shoots 49.3% for 15.6 points and six boards a game.\u00a0 Reigning Co-America East Player of the Week Chikilra Goodman, a senior guard, leads the team with 3.6 assists, 2.7 steals and 7.2 boards a game, scoring 12.1 a contest.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
