Indoor Track Closes Final Weekend Before Championships<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Millrose Results<\/a> \u2502 Scarlet and White Results<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

NEW YORK \u2013<\/strong> While most indoor track athletes at the University at Albany enjoyed a weekend off to recover in preparation for America East Championships next week, a select few remained on the competition circuit to showcase their talents at this year\u2019s Millrose Games at the Armory in New York City.\u00a0 UAlbany fielded five relay teams and sent one individual to compete in the John Thomas High Jump.\u00a0 Additionally, UAlbany had one athlete attend Boston University\u2019s Scarlet and White Invitational.<\/span><\/p>\n

Originally, a selection of athletes was supposed to travel to the Spire Insititute for the NCAA Division I Invitational.\u00a0 The trip was cancelled, however, due to the weather, so those athletes joined the majority of their teammates in a weekend free from competition.\u00a0 That left just the Millrose and Scarlet athletes active this weekend.<\/span><\/p>\n

UAlbany\u2019s sole entry at the Scarlet and White invitational was senior <\/a><\/a>Alfonso Scannapieco<\/a> in the men\u2019s pole vault.\u00a0 Scannapieco, who had yet to record a height in the event all season, placed first overall with a mark of 16\u2019-2.75\u201d.\u00a0 The jump is the best on the team this season and qualifies Scannapieco for IC4A\u2019s.\u00a0 The mark also tops the America East conference by two inches, based on performances entering the weekend.<\/span><\/p>\n

At Millrose, perhaps the most prestigious indoor meet in the world, UAlbany fielded a men\u2019s and women\u2019s 4\u00d7200 relay, a men\u2019s and women\u2019s 4\u00d7400 relay, and a men\u2019s 4\u00d7800 relay.\u00a0 Additionally, junior <\/a><\/a>Alexander Bowen<\/a>, who was originally supposed to compete at Spire, received an invitation to compete in the John Thomas High Jump.<\/span><\/p>\n

The men\u2019s 4\u00d7200 kicked off proceedings for the Danes on Saturday.\u00a0 The team of\u00a0Jaymen Teemer, <\/a><\/a>Kareem Morris<\/a>, Robert Harris III, and <\/a><\/a>Winston McCormack<\/a>\u00a0placed second overall with a time of 1:27.66.\u00a0 The time narrowly sets a new school record, breaking the old mark of 1:27.70 set at last year\u2019s Millrose Games.\u00a0 Morris led off in 22.4, Harris split 21.5, Teemer split 21.8, and McCormack closed in 21.7.<\/span><\/p>\n

The women\u2019s 4\u00d7200, consisting of <\/a><\/a>Jillian Haynes<\/a>, <\/a><\/a>Kahlia Taylor<\/a>, <\/a><\/a>Michelle Anthony<\/a>, and <\/a><\/a>Ashlee Maduro<\/a> also placed second with a time of 1:41.50.\u00a0 Both UAlbany squads raced against a mixture of college and club teams.<\/span><\/p>\n

Both the men\u2019s and women\u2019s 4\u00d7400 teams competed in the Eastern division, which consisted entirely of collegiate squads.\u00a0 The men\u2019s team of <\/a><\/a>Taariq Jones<\/a>, Daryl Subran<\/a>, Jason Tomlinson, and <\/a><\/a>Jeremiah Obeng-Agyapong<\/a> placed second in overall with a time of 3:16.91.\u00a0 The women\u2019s team of <\/a><\/a>Aderinsola Ajala<\/a>, <\/a><\/a>Kamilah Williams<\/a>, <\/a><\/a>Dominique Claudio<\/a>, and <\/a><\/a>Tynelle Taylor-Chase<\/a> placed fifth with a time of 3:46.89, finishing just shy of the school record they set a week ago at the Collegiate Invitational.<\/span><\/p>\n

Like the 4\u00d7400, the Byron Dyce 4\u00d7800 field solely featured collegiate squads.\u00a0 UAlbany placed fourth overall, with the team of <\/a><\/a>Andrew Pirnie<\/a>, Larry Ramirez, <\/a><\/a>Youness Benzaid<\/a>, and <\/a><\/a>Dylan Lowry<\/a> crossing the finish line in 7:33.25.\u00a0 Benzaid followed up his 1:51.7 split in the 4\u00d7800 at Collegiate with a 1:51.4 today.\u00a0 But the big split on the team was from Lowry, who split 1:52 chasing Duke and Villanova.\u00a0 His previous best was 1:54.<\/span><\/p>\n

Finally, in the John Thomas High Jump, Bowen was one of five elite competitors.\u00a0 After putting forth a poor-by-his-standards showing at Collegiate, jumping 6\u2019-10.75\u201d, Bowen righted the ship with a mark of 7\u2019-2.25\u201d, finishing just shy of his personal best on the season.\u00a0 Bowen also had some close attempts at 7\u2019-4.25\u201d, which would have been a personal best, so it appears he is rounding into form.<\/span><\/p>\n

Next up for UAlbany is the America East Indoor Championships, which kick off on Sunday, February 23rd<\/sup> and conclude on Monday, February 24.\u00a0 The meet will be hosted at the Armory in New York City, and will be the fifth time this season that the Great Danes have competed at the facility.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
