Whenever I buy a computer, I am very careful to make sure it has an integrated TV tuner or is capable of having one installed. Sadley, on my newest computer a HP Dv5, the TV tuner is hardley used. Why would I use the TV tuner with only 13-20 something channels when I have over 300 channels available through an internet connection? I do not use the TV tuner thanks to the newest edition to the TechiTeens Gadget Vault- a SlingBox Solo.<\/p>\n

Setting up the Sling Box took only minutes, the hardest part was deciding which TV to put it on. I did no want to install it on a TV that was most likely to be by someone else, so I picked the den cable box and TV. This helps ensure that I do not disturb someone at home’s TV watching while i watch from my laptop or mobile device (via the slingbox mobile software). Dialing up with a cellphone, while on board an Amtrak train was enough of a connection for the Sling Box software to connect to my slingbox at home, and i delightfully tuned to the weather channel to watch "Storm Stories."<\/p>\n

The software is almost as great at the device itself. It allows the user to pause\/rewind live tv, and features a full channel guide. I have used the SlingBox as a remote for my TV\/Cable box for the couple of times i have lost the remote while i was home, it is also a great way to poke fun at your family. In the midst of a movie I can log in and mute the TV, lower the volume or shut it off completely. Idealy, I do not do this often but everyone and a while is enough to make them fear the power of the Sling Box Solo.<\/p>\n

Overall, the Sling Box does it’s job very well, despite making my TV tuner obsolete, the sling box will lower the cost of future computer purchases.<\/p>\n
