ALBANY, N.Y. \u2013<\/strong> A 5-0 UAlbany run into the fourth quarter to take a two-point lead was not enough as the Great Danes fell, in another one-goal game, to Drexel 14-13 at John Fallon Field on Saturday.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI thought we played good defense, but we did not shoot well or have energy on the offensive end,\u201d said UAlbany head coach Scott Marr<\/a><\/strong>. \u201cWe had our chances, and it was a clean game.\u00a0 But we still feel good; we have had two one-goal losses, we just need to play a little better.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

UAlbany (0-2) had a two-goal lead on Drexel (1-1) with 12:56 left after Tim Cox<\/a>\u2019s<\/strong> second goal.\u00a0 Drexel scored five of the next six goals, including the last two by Ben McIntosh, to go up 14-12 with 2:48 remaining.\u00a0 A John Maloney<\/a><\/strong> score from Lyle Thompson<\/a><\/strong> with 1:45 left brought UAlbany within one, but a couple of late shots by the Great Danes were wide, and the Dragons got the 14-13 victory.<\/span><\/p>\n

Miles Thompson<\/a><\/strong> finished the contest with four goals and two assists, increasing his point-scoring streak to 39-consecutive games.\u00a0 Lyle Thompson also had six points off a goal and five assists for UAlbany.\u00a0 Goalkeeper Blaze Riorden<\/a><\/strong> had 17 saves on 31 shots on goal despite picking up the loss.<\/span><\/p>\n

For Drexel, McIntosh concluded with four goals, while teammate Nick Trizano had a trio.\u00a0 Cole Shafer notched five assists, adding a goal.\u00a0 Getting the win, Wil Gabrielsen had 16 saves in the cage.<\/span><\/p>\n

Drexel connected with the first two goals, holding UAlbany off the scoreboard for nearly 13 minutes.\u00a0 UAlbany countered with two quick goals from Ty Thompson<\/a><\/strong> and Riley Lasda<\/a><\/strong>, using a Maloney charge and score from Miles Thompson to take a 3-2 lead with 12:56 left in the second.\u00a0 The two sides went back and forth for the rest of the quarter, with a Tim Cox<\/a><\/strong> score from Lyle Thompson tying the score at 5-5 with 25 seconds remaining in the half, sending the teams into the locker room tied.<\/span><\/p>\n

McIntosh scored a pair of early goals to start a 3-0 Drexel run into the third quarter, putting the visitors up 8-5.\u00a0 Miles Thompson scored a pair of quick goals in a span of 21 seconds, followed by Lyle Thompson finding Ryan Feuerstein<\/a><\/strong> and Will Stenberg<\/a><\/strong> for scores to put UAlbany ahead 9-8 going into the fourth.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cox\u2019s goal 2:04 into the fourth gave UAlbany a 10-8 lead, its largest advantage of the game.\u00a0 Drexel got a man-up opportunity, with Shafer passing to Jared Boudreau for the score.\u00a0 UAlbany responded with Lyle Thompson throwing a hard bounce shot to the top of the cage for the score, making it 11-9 with 11:06 left.\u00a0 Drexel\u2019s 5-1 run, capped by two McIntosh\u2019s goals, sealed the game for the Dragons.<\/span><\/p>\n

UAlbany will play next Saturday against Harvard on March 1st<\/sup> at 12 p.m. at John Fallon Field.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
