WEST POINT, N.Y.<\/strong> \u2013 The University at Albany women\u2019s tennis team (5-3), fell 4-3 against Army (10-1) on Friday night in a tightly contested match at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center in West Point, N.Y.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Great Danes earned the first point of the match after winning two of three doubles matches. Cheryl Kukkonen<\/a> and Alba Sala<\/a> downed the Army tandem 8-6, while Paulina Torres<\/a> and Mireille Hermans<\/a> dominated in their doubles match, 8-2.<\/span><\/p>\n

UAlbany forfeited the No. 6 singles match, and the score was locked at 3-3 after five of six singles matches had concluded. Torres retired in the No. 4 slot after falling 7-5 in the first set, and the Black Knights went on to win despite the Great Danes emerging victorious in No. 1 and No. 2 singles.<\/span><\/p>\n

Gordon Graham<\/a>\u2019s squad continues its 2014 campaign at Princeton with matches against the Tigers and Seton Hall on March 1 and 2, respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n
