Women\u2019s Lacrosse Looks for Second-Straight Road Win at Manhattan on Wednesday<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

ALBANY, N.Y.<\/strong> \u2013 The University at Albany women\u2019s lacrosse team (1-0) continues its 2014 campaign this Wednesday, Feb. 26 at Manhattan (0-1). Opening draw is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Great Danes ended Bryant\u2019s two-game winning streak last Friday, taking a 20-13 win in Smithfield, R.I. Sophomore midfielder Rachel Bowles<\/a> scored five goals and recorded four assists to notch a new career high in single-game points with nine. Bowles was named the America East Co-Offensive Player of the Week<\/a> for her efforts.<\/span><\/p>\n

Freshman Dakotah Savitcheff<\/a> scored four goals in her UAlbany debut, while senior Ariana Parker<\/a> recorded two goals and two assists. Parker also picked up two ground balls to go with two caused turnovers and two draw controls. The senior midfielder has recorded at least one point in seven of her last eight games.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Great Danes and the Jaspers met last season at John Fallon Field, and UAlbany came away with a dominating 19-1 victory. Eleven different Great Danes scored in the game, highlighted by three goals each from Bowles, Nichole Eamer<\/a> and Parker. John Battaglino<\/a>\u2019s squad took a 13-9 edge in draw controls, and picked up 25 ground balls to Manhattan\u2019s 11. Kathleen Lennon<\/a> had eight ground balls, seven caused turnovers and five draw control victories in the win.<\/span><\/p>\n

SCOUTING MANHATTAN<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Jaspers (0-1) lost their first game 6-3 to Rutgers on Feb. 18. Midfielder Kaitlyn Cunningham led Manhattan with two goals, two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Goalkeeper Christina Fiorinelli was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week after tallying 10 saves and a save percentage of .625 against the Scarlet Knights. Fiorinelli was an All-MAAC Rookie Team selection in 2012 after earning the starting spot in the cage as a freshman.<\/span><\/p>\n

First-year head coach Elizabeth Weber leads Manhattan into the 2014 season after a 4-13 record in 2013.\u00a0 A 2009 graduate of Loyola (Md.), Weber was previously the head coach at Holy Family University.<\/span><\/p>\n

Manhattan returns a deep midfield after only losing two seniors from 2013. Carly Eskenazi, a team captain, led the team in goals last season. Fellow senior Kelsey Rehain returns as the team\u2019s leader in assists in 2013 with 10 and ranked second on the team in points with 22.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
