Bowen, Scannapieco To Compete At Last Chance Meet<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Meet Schedule<\/span><\/p>\n

ALBANY, N.Y. \u2013<\/strong> Hot on the heels of yet another conference championship, the University at Albany will send two men\u2019s indoor track athletes, Alexander Bowen<\/a> and Alfonso Scannapieco<\/a>, to Boston University to compete in the BU Last Chance Meet on Sunday, March 2.\u00a0 This meet marks the last opportunity either athlete has to qualify for nationals.<\/span><\/p>\n

Both Bowen and Scannapieco have national qualifying aspirations.\u00a0 Bowen is currently tied for 11th nationally in the high jump with his best mark of the season.\u00a0 Scannapieco is tied for 57th in the vault.\u00a0 Taking their personal bests into account, 7\u2019-3.25\u201d for Bowen and 17\u2019-6.5\u201d for Scannapieco, Bowen would sit alone in eighth and Scannapieco would be tied for 20th.\u00a0 Because there is no regional qualifier during the indoor season, only the top 16 athletes in each event will earn a berth into the national championship.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bowen and Scannapieco each won their primary events at the America East Indoor Championships last weekend.\u00a0 Bowen jumped 7\u2019-1\u201d to lead a UAlbany sweep of the top three places.\u00a0 Scannapieco record a mark of 17\u2019-0.75\u201d in the pole vault, leading a top-two sweep for UAlbany.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAlex is trying to boost his NCAA mark and Alfonso is looking to get into nationals with a big jump,\u201d said assistant coach Todd Wolin<\/a>. \u00a0\u201cAlfonso can hopefully build on last week when he easily jumped 17\u2019-0.75\u201d and stopped, because he was tired from vaulting, hurdling, and long jumping.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In the Northeast region, Bowen holds the second best high jump mark at 7\u2019-2.5\u201d.\u00a0 Scannapieco remains unranked in the region due to the odd timing of the America East Championship, but would hold the top spot in the pole vault based on the latest results.<\/span><\/p>\n

Bowen\u2019s best indoor jump, 7\u2019-3.25\u201d, came at last year\u2019s America East Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.\u00a0 Scannapieco recorded his best indoor mark, 17\u2019-1\u201d, at the 2012 America East Championships, which took place at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center, where this meet will be held.<\/span><\/p>\n

The field events kick off at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday with the women\u2019s events.\u00a0 The men\u2019s events will begin following their conclusion.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
