CAROLINA, PUERTO RICO \u2013<\/strong> Just over one week after Alexander Bowen<\/a> competed in the high jump as the University at Albany\u2019s sole representative at the Division I Indoor National Championships, the outdoor track season has begun.\u00a0 UAlbany\u2019s men and women traveled south to Puerto Rico for a few days of training in warmer weather, capped off by the first competition of the season in the Spring Break Classic.<\/span><\/p>\n

UAlbany\u2019s 4\u00d7100 relay team of Robert Harris, Jaymen Teemer, Donald Williams<\/a>, and Jonathan Santana<\/a> kicked off proceedings for the Danes, claiming victory in a four-team pool with a time of 40.70.\u00a0 Next, John DeLallo<\/a> led a UAlbany sweep of the top two places in the 1,500.\u00a0 DeLallo ran 3:54.58, and Dylan Lowry<\/a> finished in 4:01.15.\u00a0 Jason Tomlinson placed sixth in the 400, running 48.54.\u00a0 Taariq Jones<\/a> placed ninth in the same event, running 48.70.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the 800, UAlbany placed athletes fourth through seventh overall.\u00a0 Youness Benzaid<\/a> finished fourth in 1:54.73.\u00a0 DeLallo was fifth in 1:55.24.\u00a0 Zach Cook was sixth in 1:55.58.\u00a0 Andrew Pirnie<\/a> was seventh in 1:55.70.\u00a0 UAlbany placed a similar grouping in the 400 hurdles.\u00a0 Jeremiah Obeng-Agyapong<\/a> placed third overall in 53.19.\u00a0 Youssef Benzamia was fourth in 53.24.\u00a0 And Larry Ramirez was fifth in 54.12.<\/span><\/p>\n

Santana placed 10th overall in the 200, running a time of 22.24.\u00a0 Christopher Buchanan placed fourth in the 3,000 in 8:49.16.\u00a0 Finally, UAlbany won the final event on the track, the 4\u00d7400 relay.\u00a0 The team of Jones, Tomlinson, Ramirez, and Santana, ran 3:11.51, a time that is already about four seconds faster than UAlbany\u2019s best time from the indoor season.<\/span><\/p>\n

Moving to the field events, Abel Gilet<\/a> placed fourth in the discus with a mark of 144\u2019-6\u201d.\u00a0 Gilet also placed second in the shot put, throwing 49\u2019-2\u201d.\u00a0 Alfonso Scannapieco<\/a> placed fourth in the long jump, recording a mark of 23\u2019-6.75\u201d.\u00a0 Nathan Hiett won the pole vault in 15\u2019-1\u201d.\u00a0 Finally, UAlbany swept the top three places in the high jump.\u00a0 Bowen placed first in 6\u2019-10.75\u201d.\u00a0 Matthew Campbell<\/a> placed second in 6\u2019-8.75\u201d.\u00a0 Kinglsey Ogbanna also placed second, with the same mark as Campbell.<\/span><\/p>\n

UAlbany will return home briefly before traveling again to their next meet.\u00a0 Late next week, the team will compete at the Texas Relays at the University of Texas, and the Bobcat Invitational at Texas State University.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
