\/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c24\">Results<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c24\"><strong>ALBANY, N.Y. \u2013<\/strong> On a blustery day that accompanied the debut of the University at Albany\u2019s brand new track, the men\u2019s track team defeated Connecticut in the fifth annual Dogfight between the two schools by a score of 90-73.\u00a0 The meet featured alternate scoring, where five points are awarded for first place, three for second, and one for third.\u00a0 Relays are scored with five points for first place and zero points for second.\u00a0 This method emphasizes performing well, instead of being awarded with a handful of points for simply fielding a competitor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c24\">\u201cToday was windy, and the weather was challenging, but our athletes really stepped up and beat a very good team today,\u201d said Director of Track &amp; Field and Cross Country <a class=\"biolink\" Vives<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c24\">Connecticut is the reigning American Athletic Conference indoor champion, and UAlbany is the reigning indoor America East champion.\u00a0 Connecticut holds the lead in the series 3-2 after today\u2019s results.\u00a0 The Huskies won the inaugural meet in 2010, as well as the last two meets.\u00a0 UAlbany first won in 2011, and claimed their second victory today.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c24\">Connecticut took victories in two of the three sprinting events, the 100 and the 400.\u00a0 Jaymen Teemer won the 200 for the Danes with a wind-aided 22.13.\u00a0 <a class=\"biolink\" Mattera<\/a> was second in 14\u2019-3.25\u201d, and Donald Dibari was third in 13\u2019-9.25\u201d.\u00a0 No other competitors cleared a height in the event.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c24\">Connecticut fared better in the horizontal jumps.\u00a0 Benzamia won the long jump in 22\u2019-5\u201d, but Connecticut took second and third in the event.\u00a0 Connecticut also swept the top-three places in the triple jump, shutting UAlbany out in the event.\u00a0 Connecticut also excelled in the throws, claiming victory in all four events.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c24\">UAlbany claimed victory in 11 events, sweeping two.\u00a0 Connecticut won eight, sweeping one.\u00a0 Next year, the Dogfight will return to Connecticut\u2019s campus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"c24\">UAlbany has next weekend off from competition before hosting the second home meet of the year, the first annual UAlbany Spring Classic on Saturday, April 19.\u00a0 Shortly after that, the Danes will compete at the Penn Relays, and then America East Outdoor Championships.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\"
