Keeping an eye on your children when you’re not around: The KeyLlama 4MB Keylogger

KeyLlama 4MB Keylogger

You can’t always see everything your child does on the computer, but with the KeyLlama, you can get very close. The KeyLlama will record every keystroke that your child makes on your computer, allowing you to review their conversations, websites they visit, even their passwords which you can then use to get more information. The only way to know that it is tracking your every letter is by physically seeing the device, which you can make difficult by plugging it into one of the back USB ports on a desktop computer where it will easily remain undiscovered. It logs every keystroke which is then accessible through the KeyLlama’s built in software.

I only experienced a couple downsides with the KeyLlama. First, it will only work if you’re using either a wired or wireless keyboard for typing because the keyboard cord first plugs into the KeyLlama and then the KeyLlama plugs into your computer, so for obvious reasons this device wouldn’t be practical for laptops. Secondly, since it doesn’t register mouse clicks, it won’t be able to detect if your kids click on a link in order to get to a website that you don’t approve of.  However, this point can be largely negated by the fact that someone clicking a link to get to website they use often will end up typing it into the address bar next time.

The KeyLlama was extremely easy to set up and monitor and despite its downsides, it still provided lots of information that is very useful in piecing together your kid’s internet activity.
